A very calming place to be. Tuis, bellbirds, fantails, wax eyes, wekas, hawks and seabirds all around. Walking, cycling, kayaking and horse riding are all possible. Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks), Paparoa National Park, Caving, Denniston plateau, Constant Bay, Truman Track, and Seal Colony are all close.

It also supports the monitoring of kea nest sites in the Cobb Valley and maintains a 17 trap trapline and trail camera behind Te Whare.
