Family Cabins - 2 bedrooms

The Institute of Awesome is an eco-lodge overlooking the coast in 110 acres of bush on the foot of Karioi. Grab two bedrooms at the lodge. One for the adults (King bed or can be 2 singles), one for the kids (4 single beds) in the next room. Peace and quiet. 🛌💤 All the other facilities are shared at the lodge, clean hot showers, cooking facilities, huge fridges in the camp kitchen. We are not 5 star but the lodge is relaxed, rustic with a tonne of character, serenity and plenty of nature.

The Wharf Hub - a voyage

While many like to stay in our heritage accommodation and be transported back to an era when our rivers were our roads, still others like to come and learn more about our unique 'Sea Gardening' initiative. We (Lloyd and Huihan aka Grace) are happy to share snippets our knowledge from our respective backgrounds or guide you to places of interest around Opotiki. Your stay is guided by you. All we ask is that you do not underestimate the jewels that can be discovered at the Wharf Hub.

Walk along the awa, enjoy a bonfire at the firepit, walk up to the prayer hut for some peace or see local glowworms light up the bush.

We are right on the bank of Waitangi River, within walking distance to Haruru Falls and 5 minutes drive to Paihia waterfront, shops, cafes etc. We are in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The price listed is for one double room with en-suite. We have multiple rooms range from double en-suite, twin en-suite, triple en-suite and One Bedroom Family Unit that can accommodate 40+ guests. Alpine Chalets - Second Floor Queen Chalet

Affordable accommodation located in the heart of the Tongariro National Park Village. The Alpine Chalets are located amongst mature native trees and established gardens. Each room has a kitchen and ensuite bathroom for your convenience. All have spectacular views of Mt Ngaruahoe (Mt Doom), Tongariro and Ruapehu. We are just a short distance from the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and skiing at the Whakapapa ski field, Mt Ruapehu
