If you’re a typical tourist visiting Brussels, you will not want to stay in Les Marolles. If you’re a traveler who is less interested in seeing how the European elite live and more interested in exploring the city like a local, you should consider Les Marolles. This residential neighborhood has a lot to offer travelers looking to live like locals. This diverse neighborhood is a mix of French and Flemish, but has welcomed many waves of immigrants, including those from Spain, North Africa, Turkey and Syria. In addition to its diversity, the neighborhood is famous for its daily Vieux Marché, or flea market, at the place Jeu de Balle, where clothes, antiques and more are sold. A neighborhood rapidly undergoing gentrification, this once working class neighborhood is now sprawling with cafés, markets, bars and restaurants for travelers to explore.

Popular and one of the oldest area of Brussels. You have the flea market, design and antiques stores, restaurants, and estaminet (local bars).

This is the neighbourhood that borders on the city center. It is full of antique stores that are great for buying vintage items, but some of the emporiums are worth a visit on their own - even without buying. Haute Antiques, Passage 125 Blaes, and Via Antica for instance. On Sundays there are two antiques markets. One on place jeu de balle, and an upscale one on place Sablon. Sablon square is the chic part of the Marolles, with high end fashion, bars, restaurants, and chocolatiers. Also a stunning church and palace gardens. The upscale antique stores are in the triangle of Rue de la Regenca, Rue des Minimes and Sablon square. If you descend downhill, on rue haute there is the quality antique furniture. Descend one more street to Rue Blaes and you fill find more affordable vintage items.

Cozy neighbourhood full of antique shops and authentic bars. Every morning there is a flee market on Place du Jeu De Balle. I love to just still through this neighbourhood and enjoy the atmosphere.
